- Preheat the oven to 180°C and grease and flour a round or square baking pan.
- Peel the apples, remove the core and cut them into thin slices. Set them aside.
- In a large bowl, beat the eggs with the granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add the melted butter to the egg and sugar mixture and mix well.
- Sift the flour, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt into the bowl with the egg and sugar mixture. Mix until you obtain a homogeneous mixture.
- Add the chopped walnuts to the dough and mix gently.
- Pour half the batter into the prepared pan and level it with a spatula.
- Arrange the apple slices evenly on the surface of the dough in the pan.
- Pour the rest of the mixture over the apples and level it with the spatula.
- Spread the remaining apple slices over the top of the dough.
- Place the cake in the preheated oven and bake for about 40-45 minutes, or until golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Once baked, let the cake cool in the pan for a few minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Once cooled, dust the cake with icing sugar if desired.
- Cut the cake into slices and serve it as a dessert or snack.
