Gaining a little weight, feeling tired, or having bruises that don’t go away aren’t symptoms of prediabetes by themselves, but when they occur together, they could be.
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) says that prediabetes occurs when blood sugar levels are higher than normal, but not high enough to qualify as diabetes.
However, most do not know they have it and are silently paving the way for a much more serious disease, according to North American endocrinologist Ashita Gupta, who points out that up to 9 out of 10 patients do not know they suffer from pre-diabetes.
“In fact, it’s common for these people to feel perfectly normal and healthy as their prediabetes progresses,” she explains to health and wellness magazine Shape.
